California State Fair in Sacremento
The California Exposition & State Fair just ended its annual event here in Sacramento with an increase in attendance by 10%, up to 741,200 , which is nice to see and good for the local economy. For those not living in Sacramento or not familiar with this great family event, let me fill you in.
This annual event was started way back in 1854 in San Francisco, and toured through Sacramento, San Jose, Stockton and Maryville. In 1859, a permanent home was built in Capitol park over six square blocks. The fair was cancelled during WWII as the grounds were needed by the army. In 1948 a new home was built on a tract of undeveloped land along the American river north of downtown Sacramento. In 1968 Ronald Reagan opened the Fair at the "Cal Expo" site which covers over 350 acres.
This fair ground is also used several other events, such as Dixieland Jazz Festival, car and RV shows, Christmas Tree Land, and doll shows. There are also concerts held here and horse racing at an adjacent track. There are all kinds of rides, games and amusements for kids and adults. This is also a permanent monorail system that transports you around the fairground, which is fun in itself. This year there were some great acts performing, including Fab Four, Eddie Money, Rick Springfield, Martina McBride, Village People, Foghat and “Weird Al” Yankovic. There was a fun demolition derby to watch as well, and the food vendors and the tickets all featured lower prices this year to boot.
I live in Placer County and love to promote this wonderful area, please check out some links on this fun fair and the property local area, both which are great for families.
